Clothing is a way of students to express their personalities. The dress code can be good and bad, and some people have different opinions on it.  It’s hard to have a dress code because people have a different point of view.  One person would look at a piece of clothing like it’s against the dress code, while others would see it as fine.

According to Teen Vogue, this one senior, Summer, at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, was suspended for wearing a green, wide neck shirt. The principle told her it was inappropriate and had to put a sweater on, she did as she was told but once again, the principle told her she had to change, and she was given a 10-day suspension as her punishment. She had a 4.4 GPA, but unfortunately wasn’t able to walk the line for graduation.  Summer was also told she couldn’t go to any senior activities. So, after we researched some information, we thought we would ask some people on campus what they thought on the dress code:

According to Mr. Crowell, he says that, “The dress code isn’t

enforced and it is impossible to enforce the dress code. The dress code has its flaws because it’s poorly written and it’s not enforced, and it’s impossible to define the dress code”. He also states that, “ The dress code doesn’t unfairly target girls but unfairly targets good students because administrators think it’s easier to deal with behaved kids then unbehaved kids.” He also thinks it’s easier just to wear uniforms although he is against having to wear uniforms in a public school.

Ms. Jacob’s, another teacher on campus, said that the dress code

is fair and it was much more strict when she was in school, meaning she had to wear skirts that were all the way to her knees.  She thinks the dress code is fine as it is and that it does challenge the girls more, but she thinks it’s okay.

Brianna Hernandez, a student at Fremont Middle School, says “I think that the girls are limited to what they can wear and the school is too strict on it.”

Estevan Villagomez, another student at Fremont, thinks the dress code is okay but thinks wearing sports clothing doesn’t do any harm.

In conclusion the dress code has it flaws but it’s also good to have one, some things can be distracting and bring too much attention.
